Bee Gees And Disco Help Save Lives

I am now CPR certified.

And it’s all thanks to Bee Gees. Well, sort of…

If you’ve ever taken a CPR class, you’ve probably heard the instructor mention the song “Stayin’ Alive” by Bee Gees (as my instructor did). You’re supposed to count your chest compression to the song because it’s at the perfect BPM.

It turns out, some smart people confirmed this to be true.

The study, called “Achy breaky makey wakey heart?,” tested how well the songs “Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus and “Disco Science” by Mirwais helped people perform CPR.

And “Disco Science” won. Between the two songs, it helped rescuers do chest compressions more accurately on time.

Wow — so disco actually has a purpose in this world.
