An Atheist Undercover in Church

In the Land of Believers: An Outsider's Extraordinary Journey into the Heart of the Evangelical ChurchIn the Land of Believers:  An Outsider’s Extraordinary Journey into the Heart of the Evangelical Church by Gina Welch

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

In the fashion of Nellie Bly, the liberal atheist Gina Welch goes undercover into Jerry Falwell’s mega church in Lynchburg, Va.

It’s interesting to read about her first impressions of the Christians she meets, their worldview, and their church. I got sucked into it because I had to find out how it would end and how she would (or if she would) reveal to her new friends that she faked believing in Jesus for two years.

It’s definitely worth reading.

  1. I found her perspective very interesting. She clearly disagreed with the christian worldview but wasn’t nasty in her criticism. She actually grew to love the people she was deceiving.
